What is a blog? For us it is a short blurb that we write when the mood strikes us. It can be first person, funny or informative. In short, a blog is whatever we want it to be. Published Feb. 27, 2008 at 9:00 a.m.

For more than four years, Six in the City has hosted its regular happy hour gatherings at various spots in and around Downtown Milwaukee at 6 p.m. on Fridays. But, on Friday, the viral and still vibrant group goes out on top.

In an e-mail, "Six" announces, "It's been four years since we started Six in the City, and we have decided that the best way for SITC to go out is with a big four-year celebration this February. Thus, Feb. 29 will be the last Six in the City. It'll be a Leap Day, 4-year SITC anniversary, and SITC finale celebration all wrapped up in one. How are we going to celebrate all that in one venue? We're not! To celebrate in true SITC style, the Feb. 29 Six in the City will be a double-header at the new Monkey Bar, 1619 S. 1st St., and La Merenda, 125 E. National Ave."

Need a special to get your there? Monkey Bar will have $5 monkey drinks and $2 domestic bottles. La Merenda pulls $2.50 taps of Lakefront ( Snake Chaser Stout and National Avenue Ale), $2.50 bottles of Wisconsin-brewed micros and $1 off any cocktail with Rehorst vodka or gin.

While something tells me that a similar group will soon re-organize, many will miss the regular and somewhat witty Six in the City e-mails. The final one is posted below.

Well, here it is: the Six in the City finale. In case you missed it, we've announced that Feb. 29, 2008 will be the last Six in the City. To go out in style, we decided to put together a double-header SITC event: the (new) Monkey Bar followed by La Merenda.

Thank you again for all the good times. Just remember that whether you're originally from Wisconsin or around the world, we're all Milwaukeeans. In honor of the double-header SITC, here's a double-header song for you, inspired by Queen's "We Will Rock You / We Are the Champions":

Buddy you're a boy, make a big noise
Sixin' in the streets, gonna have a big plan some day
You got rum on yo' brain, but not champagne
Sixin' your can thru snow and the rain (sing it!)

We will, we will Six you
We will, we will Six you

Baby you're a woman, Six fan
Dancin' in the street, gonna take on the world some day
You want Bloodies embraced, no big disgrace
Sixin' and scattin' all over the place

We will, we will Six you (sing it!)
We will, we will Six you

Buddy you're an old friend, good friend
Dressin' to the nines, gonna have us a fun Fri-day
You got a smile on yo' face, don't be late
Somebody better get you there, Six is your fate

We will, we will Six you (sing it)
We will, we will Six you (everybody)
We will, we will Six you
We will, we will Six you (all night)

We've paid our dues, had a great time
We've done our penance, for committing bad rhymes
Near this Great Lake, we've had a few
We've hit our share of pubs, Sixed with some grace
And we've met you

We are Milwaukeeans, my friends
And we'll keep on Sixing, 'til the end
We are Milwaukeeans
We are Milwaukeeans
No time for snoozers
'Cause we are Milwaukeeans…
From the world

We'd taken our vows, made stops 'n calls
We got acclaim and fortunately you chose to Six
We thank you all
And it's been a bed of roses - our pleasure, too
We considered it a challenge before the whole social state
And we weren't gonna lose

We are Milwaukeeans, my friends
And we'll keep on Sixing, 'til the end
We are Milwaukeeans
We are Milwaukeeans
No time for snoozers
'Cause we are Milwaukeeans…
From the world

We are Milwaukeeans, my friends
And we'll keep on Sixing, 'til the end
We are Milwaukeeans
We are Milwaukeeans
No time for snoozers
'Cause we are Milwaukeeans…
